K-Sports, a local sports marketing company, has bought the rights to the upcoming Bangabandhu Gold Cup after signing an agreement with the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) at the BFF House yesterday.

According to the agreement, K-Sports, who is also the rightsholder of the country's premier T20 league among other cricket sponsorships, will provide all the expenditures in holding the six-nation Bangabandhu Gold Cup. It will also provide one crore taka to the game's governing body, who had previously hosted the Gold Cup by themselves.

"Although we once played in the Merdeka Cup in Malaysia, the King's Cup in Thailand and the President's Cup in South Korea, such tournaments are not being held regularly due to tight domestic and international schedules. However, we are proud of hosting the Bangabandhu Gold Cup," said BFF president Kazi Salahuddin at the agreement signing ceremony.

"This time we are trying to take one team from each zone of the Asian Football Confederation. The teams from the Middle East, ASEAN and South Asia have confirmed and we are trying to ensure two teams from Central and East Asia," said Salahuddin, adding that Palestine, Philippines and Nepal had confirmed their participation.

"We are pleased to have gotten this opportunity because we came into sports through football in 2009," said K-Sports CEO Fahad Karim. "Our target is to make the tournament successful as it is our first international tournament. We also don't want to lose our investment."

Later Karim informed that they have made a draft budget of Tk 8 to 9 crore, which may increase or decrease depending on the participating teams.
